• The 29 Commandments for Married Women
      • A woman, by nature is the most powerful creation than a Man. She has the power to either build up or break up a family/society/country.

Though destitute of virtue, or seeking pleasure (elsewhere), or devoid of good qualities, (yet) a husband must be constantly worshipped as a god by a faithful wife. [Manusmrithi 5:154]

In Ramayana, Sita worshiped her husband Rama as her god. She acquired Moksha (paradise) with her worship. She was considered as an ideal wife. Savithri, through her penance, saved her husband’s life from the hostage of Yama Dharma Raja, the king of the Hell. Women of ancient times used to adopt these methods in their lives in order to sustain their married life and to attain fame as an ideal wife. Hence, ancient families used to last for life long. This is the reason why epic writers had portrayed women as worships of god as a lover. This idea of the epic balances the harmony of the families.

Nevertheless, modern women say, “When husbands regard the goddess as mothers, why cannot women regard gods as fathers? Why should a wife regard her husband as god?”. Modern women consider their husbands as merely partners in a business called “marriage life”. This thought leads to the birth of individual freedom and independency which can break up marriage life. Today we see many modern educated women are walking out of marriage life even for a small abuse.

        Holy Bible says that:

        (i) The wise woman builds her house; but the foolish pulls it down with her hands
(ii) An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.

So women, do follow the rules below to make your family a successful one.

        • Never leak out even a small family issue or a dispute to your relatives, friends, or even to your parents.
        • Be submissive to your husband in all matters.
        • Do not back-answer your husband, as he is elder to you in age.
        • You can advice him like a minister, but do not insist him to follow.
        • Try to support his deeds all the time so that your husband develops abundant love on you.
          • Do not try to do anything against to his will and without his notice.
          • Do not try to insist him for a nucleus family.
          • Do not create quarrels between your parent-in-laws and your husband.
          • Do not allow others, even your parents, to interfere in your family matters.
          • Do not think that it is a shame to depend on husband, for a woman is honored as long as her husband lives.
          • Cook delicious food for him. This is also one of the factors that help him to love you more.
          • Remember that the submissiveness and patience are the greatest ornaments of a woman.
          • Try to settle small family disputes as earliest as possible.
        • Respect your husband before others.
        • It is your duty to satisfy his carnal desires, whether you like it or not, except when the health does not permit.
        • Don’t ever try to rule your husband, if so you are called a boisterous woman.
        • Remember that your husband is ultimately responsible to the society for your deeds.
        • Look after your children properly. Do not entrust this job to any other caretaker.
        • Do not feel that you are a Kitchen rabbit. To be a homemaker is not an inferior one.
        • Remember that you are the clay-lamp of the house.
        • Remember that according to the principle of creation, every male of the species ensures protection for the female, while every female of the species nurtures the family.
        • Remember that some things or issues you see with naked eye or hear with naked ear may not be true.
        • Try to be away from the jealous people as they can create turbulence in your family life. Remember the stories of Sita (in Ramayana) who was kidnapped by Ravana, and the story of Eve (in Bible) who was deceived by the Satan.
        • Remember that a family will be ruined when husband’s word has no value.
        • Remember that your primary aim is to earn the fame as an ideal wife and as an ideal mother.
        • Remember that individual freedom and independency, if misused, ruins the whole family.
        • Realize that beauty is worthless with out a good sense. It fades away with the passage of age.
        • Remember that you are supposed to bring name and fame to your husband’s house and your maiden’s house.
        • You can step out of the house to earn in the following cases:
          1. Your husband is unable to earn sufficient income.
          2. Your husband is incapable of earning more money.
          3. Your husband is irresponsible in his duties.

The above commands are NOT patriarchal (male domination), but are the only standard keys for a successful and happy family life. Never fight for your rights against your husband. He is your protection shield. Never expect praises from him. Hinduism says that a true wife should be a minister in advice, servant at household work, goddess in pardoning, Mother in feeding, and Venus at romance. Never feel that you are inferior to him. The difference between the husband and wife is like that of Peacock and Swan. Both are very beautiful, and none is superior to each other. If you want to attain the name and fame as an ideal wife, try to win the heart of him with your selfless love. Best of Luck!
